Most orders have been split into two halves for easier line identification. Click on the appropriate link below for the order of interest to get a PostScript plot. The CuAr, HgNe, and Xe lines were taken through a 0.5 arcsec slit width, while the night sky is from a 3600 sec exposure through the 0.75 arcsec slit.

Note that the CuAr light goes through a fiber which has high blue throughput but a red cutoff. Hence there are no lines in order 6 or the red half of order 7. HgNe, Xe, or night sky lines provide good coverage at these wavelengths.

The night sky emission, while providing good coverage in the near IR, has few or no useful lines on the blue half of order 11, only four lines 2/3 of the way across order 12, and no lines in orders 13-15. It may also be something of a challenge getting the night sky scale and the arc lamp scales on a consistent footing, since they are taken with different slit illumination and often at different telescope pointings.

Osterbrock and collaborators have published two excellent papers containing wavelengths and identifications of night sky emission lines: one for wavelengths 5190-8980 Å and one for wavelengths 8780-10,600 Å. Note that many of the lines in the near-IR are blends, and only those that the referenced paper find to be isolated at ESI resolutions are marked and included in the ESI line lists.
