DEIMOS Slitmask Cassette Cleaning Procedure

Procedure

  1. With DEIMOS out of telescope, remove cladding panel, D8805-1, in front of the cassette for access. This panel is locked by two panels that form the nose cylinder. These must be removed first.
  2. Remove the mask-aligned transmitter, D1242, and receiver, D1217, D1218-3, from the cassette actuator and the cassette.
  3. Clean hole with pipe cleaner.
  4. Alternately clean hold and "floss" the slots with a piece of card stock (a piece of manila folder or something similar). Drag a corner of the card stock down the bottom of each slot to sweep any material out.
  5. Vacuum area around cassette and slit mask form to remove any debris.
  6. Replace mask-aligned transmitter and receiver.
  7. Replace and retape cladding.
