    Motor Moves

When calibrating a short longslit, the system reconfigures all 46 CSU bar pairs. This seems like a waste of time. Is this the intended mode of operation?

It is. When calibrating any longslit, the system does reconfigure all of the bars even if the longslit is only a few segments long. This is to ensure that the other slits are closed up. For example, if the CSU was in the “open” (imaging) position prior to the longslit move, then only a few slits would be closed down and the resulting spectra would probably be ruined. Instead, we have MOSFIRE close down all of the slits to the desired width.
