IQM vs MIRA testing

Using engineering data acquired in Aug and Sept, piston corrections using the offset guider IQM for LRIS was calibrated. As of 25 Oct. 2009, IQM is released for use with MIRA observations. The intention is to demonstrate whether IQM suggests telescope focus adjustments that are comparble to those determined using the MIRA software.

IQM setup procedure

  1. Slew to an appropriate MIRA star
  2. Run MIRA and SEND CORRECTIONS
  3. Select the REF0 as the PO and run a MAGIQ camera focus routine. From the oA GUI top menu bar select Camera->Focusing
  4. Select from DCSGUI/MAGIQ menu Start IQM UI to lanch the IQM screens
  5. From the IQM UI
    • Confirm that on the IQM UI
      • Select lrisOffset from pull-down camera list and press "Select" button
      • Confirm that it is selected
      • Measurement Only checkbox is selected.
      • IQM center set to "Click"
    • Click One Shot on IQM UI
    • Click on the star in the image to acquire IQM data
    • Check that the coordinates beside the IQM center show the ones close to where you clicked.

IQM acquisition procedure: T01040

  1. Slew to an appropriate MIRA star
  2. Select REFO as the PO and center the star
  3. Select the ND1 filter for the offset guider. Photometric filter should be set to clear.
  4. Confirm that on the IQM UI
    • lrisOffset is selected and click 'Select'
    • Measurement Only checkbox is selected.
    • IQM center set to "Click"
  5. Click One Shot on IQM UI
  6. Click on the star in the image to acquire IQM data
  7. Check that the coordinates beside the IQM center show the ones close to where you clicked.
  8. Wait until the full frame is back.
  9. Run MIRA and SEND CORRECTIONS
  10. Repeat steps 2-7
  11. Continue with science obs.
