Wavelength Finder
A composite of several HIRES ThAr images covering most of the range of HIRES has been constructed, and many of the brightest lines in the spectrum have been labeled. This is to aid in identifying wavelengths from ThAr spectra at the telescope, and more quickly get set up to your desired coverage.

Some caveats:

  • The image is large and will take a little while to download.
It overfills most screens so that you can scroll around on the image in order to best match your particular wavelength settings.

  • Line wavelengths show in the status bar at the bottom of your browser. Wavelengths are only given to 1 Å, and some lines visible on the image are not identified at all. There is even a line or two missing, somehow cut out during the image compositing process.

  • (x,y) positions on the image do not correspond to positions on the detector. In fact the compositing technique has left discontinuities in the wavelength vs. image (x,y) map.
  • On to the Wavelength Map!
