MIRA

Background

This web page gives information regarding the ESI MIRA software for checking telescope focus.

Procedure

As of mid-2010 the ESI software has changed and is unable to retrieve the value of PMFM directly from ACS. This means that MIRA must be launched in a particular way by the OA in order to work:
  • From DCS GUI, click Instr > ESI > current to bring up the ESI Operations Menu on the current screen.
  • Click on the menu and release on malacq.tcl to launch the malacq tool.
  • Click on the menu and release on Mira to launch the Mira analysis tool.

Components

The following pieces of software are relevant in the running of the MIRA procedure for ESI. Note that all software runs under the esieng account on esiserver.
  • /home/kanaha/esieng/bin/malacq.tcl: Script for acquiring the MIRA images. This is actually a symlink to miracq.tcl (which is in turn a symlink to the current version).
  • /home/kanaha/esieng/bin/cshow.malacq: Starts a "cshow" process covering all of the CCD keywords changed by malacq.tcl. Output to /kroot/log/malacq.log.
  • /home/kanaha/esieng/bin/tailMalacqLog: Tails the file /kroot/log/malacq.log to keep tabs on the procedure.

Data Directory

All ESI Mira image are written to the directory /s/sdata701/malign.
