Laser propagation will be restricted in cases where spotter availability is limited, that is, the case where a spotter is unavailable due to illness or other reasons. The sole available spotter will alternate shifts outside for the purpose of aircraft safety laser avoidance from one to two hours each with an equal amount of time inside for the purpose of warming up and performing other duties. The time spent outside is not to exceed a total of 50% of the potential lasing time for the night. The actual shift schedule can be flexible and should be coordinated with the OA and observer to optimize the science and to coordinate with weather considerations, transportation, and other duties the spotter (night attendant) may be required to do as long as the maximum 2 hour per shift and 50% total limits are satisfied.
