STEPS Disassembly Instructions

  1. Turn off the AC power strip at the strip's on-off switch, but keep the camera power supply plugged in (so that it is grounded). Then turn off the camera power supply.
  2. Unplug the camera cable from the camera dewar.
  3. Plug the camera grounding plug into the camera dewar.
  4. Remove the camera dewar from the transfer module.
  5. Screw on the camera faceplate over the camera window. The faceplate and screws are inside the aluminum case used to ship the camera.
  6. Remove the stinger from the fill tube of the camera dewar.
  7. Unplug the power supply cable from the camera electronics.
  8. Unplug the BNC connection between the camera electronics and the cable to the shutter electronics.
  9. Unplug the optical fibers from the camera electronics.
  10. Unscrew the camera electronics from the transfer module. Keep the dangling camera cable attached.
  11. Unstrap the power supply, power supply cable, power supply AC cable, and optical fibers from the transfer module. Keep all remaining electronics and cables connected to the transfer module.
  12. Remove the baffle from the transfer module.

STEPS Packing Instructions

  1. Packing list:
    1. Camera dewar
    2. Camera power supply
    3. Camera electronics and attached cables
    4. Power supply cable
    5. Power supply AC cable
    6. Optical fibers
    7. Dewar stinger
    8. Stinger removing tool
  2. Once all the LN2 has boiled off, screw the camera stabilizing shaft into the fill tube. You will find the stabilizing shaft inside the large sibbping container on the ground floor in the instrument or electronics lab.
  3. Place the camera dewar into its aluminum shipping case, grounding plug and valve pointing upwards. Orient the dewar so that the valve fits into a slot in the foam rubber in the cover of the case. Place the stinger, and tools to remove the stinger in the case also, wrapped in bubble wrap. Close up the shipping case.
  4. Tape the screws that attach the camera electronics to the transfer module to the side of the electronics. Also tape the dangling camera cable to the side.
  5. Cap the ends of the optical fibers. The caps are in a bag that was inside the camera shipping case. Put the fiber in the bag.
  6. Place the camera shipping case, camera electronics, power supply, power supply cables, and optical fibers into the shipping container. Arrange the foam inserts so that everything is snug.
  7. Send it all back to JPL. Stuart Shaklan and Bob Goodrich have the shipping information.
