I.                 COMPUTER ROOM MCP

1.       ALIGN telescope to (NLT1-RT4 AO, AZ: 10.48¡, EL: 45¡)

2.       ANNOTATE ÒNO TELESCOPE MOVESÓ on the MCP white board, Including initials and date.

 

II.                  CONTROL ROOM

3.       OPEN Instrument Tech > Start VNC Viewers.

4.       PULLDOWN Workspace Menu in VNC Viewer. SELECT: NIRSPEC Engineering > RUN testAll.

5.       From workspace menu SELECT: NIRSPEC Engineering > Instrument Temps

6.       VERIFY BENCH1, BENCH2, SCAM, and SPEC temperatures are within a few degrees of the TARGET temperature.

7.       From workspace menu SELECT: NIRSPEC Engineering > @RECONFIG Power OFF@.

8.       From workspace menu SELECT: NIRSPEC Engineering > SHOWPOWER.

9.       VERIFY most outlets are OFF (note: A7, A8 & D2 stays ON).

 

III.                   AO ENCLOSURE


Text Box: THE AO IS A CLEAN ROOM SO IT IS IMPORTANT TO MINIMIZE THE TIME THE AO ROOM DOOR IS OPEN.

 

10.        REMOVE and STOW safety gates from Nasmyth deck.

11.        REMOVE and STOW door threshold and clip from the outside of the AO

12.        REMOVE tape from the inside of the AO doors.

13.        OPEN the AO door.

14.        CONNECT handler power cord to RT4 handler power outlet.

15.        PRESS the UP button on side of handler to raise the instrument, until it stops, to

UNDEFINE the instrument.

16.        REMOVE CCR protection box cover, and place it on top of NIRSPEC.

17.        DISCONNECT the following cables from the AO Instrument Interface Panel and NIRSPEC.

a.   DISCONNECT NIRSPEC Air purge line

Air purge from AO Instrument Interface Panel

b.   DISCONNECT P1 from J1

(W-O-05) Instrument power cable from NIRSPEC

c.   DISCONNECT P4 from J4

DATA/COMM cable from the NIRSPEC aux panel

d.   DISCONNECT the Glycol lines from the NIRSPEC Cooling Panel [NIRSPEC-Cool]

i.     DISCONNECT Glycol Supply line

ii.   DISCONNECT Glycol Return line

e.   INSTALL all available protective caps over exposed connectors, at both panels and cable ends.

18.        VERIFY that the tracks and instrument are clear of objects/debris between the instrument, the floor, and RT4.


IV.                  MECHANICAL ROOM

Text Box: WARNING: TURNING OFF THE NIRSPEC CCRS PROVIDES APPROXIMATELY 60 MIN BEFORE THE DEWAR VACUUM PRESSURE REACHES AN UNACCEPTABLY HIGH VALUE. AT THAT POINT, EITHER THE CCRS NEED TO BE POWERED ON OR A VACUUM PUMP NEEDS TO BE PUMPING ON THE DEWAR. OTHERWISE NIRSPEC WILL LOSE VACUUM COMPLETELY AND WILL NEED TO BE WARMED TO AMBIENT, PUMPED, AND THEN COOLED BACK TO OPERATING TEMPERATURE, A 15 DAY PROCESS.

 

19.        TURN OFF the NIRSPEC CCR compressor using the RED circuit breakers.

20.        COMMUNICATE to NIRSPEC Nasmyth personnel that the power to the CCR compressor and cold heads are powered OFF.

Note the time as NIRSPEC CCRÕs should not be off for more than 1 hour.

V.                 COMPUTER ROOM (May be completed in parallel with the following tasks in the AO Enclosure)

21.        MOVE the following cables from AO LNAS PLATFORM to TELESCOPE RNAS PLATFORM on the Instrument Interface Panel (NIRSPEC)

a.   CONNECT P3 to J3

NIRSPEC CCR POWER on Instrument Interface Panel [TELESCOPE RNAS PLATFORM]

b.   CONNECT P5 to J5

NIRSPEC DATA COMS on Instrument Interface Panel [TELESCOPE RNAS PLATFORM]

c.   INSTALL all available protective caps over exposed connectors, at both panels and cable ends.

 

VI.                  AO ENCLOSURE (May be completed in parallel with the previous tasks in the Computer Room)

22.        DISCONNECT P2 from J2

CCR power cable (W-O-04) on NIRSPEC Connector Panel [NCP]

23.        DISCONNECT the Helium lines from the NIRSPEC Connector Panel [NCP] using the CCR tool kit.

c.   STOW hoses properly with caps attached.

24.        TURN ON handler power.

25.        DRIVE NIRSPEC handler to RT4 on the Nasmyth Deck.

26.        TURN OFF handler power.

27.        CLOSE AO door and SECURE clip.

28.        INSTALL the threshold, but do not tape the inside of the door at this time.

29.        SECURE safety chains/gates on Nasmyth platform.

 

VII.                    COMPUTER ROOM MCP

Text Box: THERE IS A TELESCOPE INTERLOCK ON THE CABLE BOOM. IF THE BOOM DEADBOLT IS NOT PROPERLY STOWED, THE TELESCOPE WILL NOT MOVE AT FULL SPEED.

 

30.        ALIGN telescope to the following:

a. FOCUS (RT4 NRT2 FOCUS, AZ: 193.410¡, EL: 45.0¡) OR

b. STOW (RT4 NRT3 STOW, AZ: 175.804¡, EL: 45.0¡)

 

VIII.                     NASMYTH DECK / RIGHT NASMYTH PLATFORM

31.        REMOVE and STOW safety cables and gates on Nasmyth Deck and RNAS platform.


FOCUS (NRT2)

32.        FOCUS POSITION (NRT2), SKIP STEP IF INSTALLING TO STOW POSITION (NRT3)

a.   REMOVE the THREE (3) RNAS Platform NIRSPEC kinematic mount cover plates.

b.   CLEAN kinematic mounts with lint-free wipes.

c.    VERIFY tracks and instrument are clear of objects/debris between the instrument, the floor, and the end of NRT2 track.

d.   VERIFY telescope RNAS port is clear.

e.   TURN ON handler power.

f.    DRIVE NIRSPEC handler toward the Nasmyth Platform stopping a few feet short of the kinematic mount alignment.

g.   INSTALL the NIRSPEC canvas cover.

h.   TAPE the square opening to the hatch panel of NIRSPEC with Aluminum tape.

Can be done any time before the module is defined.

i.     DRIVE NIRSPEC handler to the FOCUS positon (NRT2).

The handler will stop automatically over the kinematic mounts.

j.     TURN OFF handler power.

k.   UNLOCK the cable boom deadbolt.

Located at the base of the boom.

l.     SHEPHERD boom cables/lines and rotate NIRSPEC boom, TOWARD the Nas Deck, to the FOCUS position.

 

STOW (NRT3)

33.        STOW POSTION (NRT3), SKIP STEP IF INSTALLING TO FOCUS POSITION (NRT2)

a.   VERIFY tracks and instrument are clear of objects/debris between the instrument, the floor, and the end of NRT3 track.

b.   TURN ON handler power.

c.    DRIVE NIRSPEC handler to the STOW positon (NRT3).

The handler will stop automatically.

d.   TURN OFF handler power.

e.   INSTALL the NIRSPEC canvas cover.

f.    TAPE the square opening around the hatch of NIRSPEC with Aluminum tape.

34.        CONNECT Helium Lines to NIRSPEC Connector Panel [NCP] using the CCR tool kit.

a.   REMOVE end caps and inspect for debris.

b.   WIPE the threads of the helium line fittings with a lint-free cloth.


c.   CONNECT CCR Return Line.

d.   CONNECT CCR Supply Line.

35.        CONNECT P2 to J2.

IX.                  MECHANICAL ROOM

36.        TURN ON NIRSPEC CCR compressor.

37.        VERIFY the return pressure on the compressor is approximately 120 PSI.

 

X.                 RIGHT NASMYTH PLATFORM

Text Box: NOTE THAT ONCE THE CCR COMPRESSOR IS TURNED ON, THE CCR PRESSURE GAUGES ON NIRSPEC SHOULD READ 315 TO 325 PSI ON THE SUPPLY LINE AND 125 TO 140 PSI ON THE RETURN LINE. OSCILLATION IN THE PRESSURE IS NORMAL AS LONG AS THE READINGS FALL WITHIN THE RANGE SPECIFIED. VERIFY THAT YOU HEAR AND FEEL CCR OSCILLATION.

 

38.        VERIFY CCRÕs are ON and audible, running properly.

39.        RECORD time.

40.        CONNECT the following cables and lines from the NIRSPEC Boom to NIRSPEC

a.   CONNECT the Glycol lines from the NIRSPEC Cooling Panel [NIRSPEC-Cool].

i.     CONNECT Glycol Return line

ii.   CONNECT Glycol Supply line

b.   CONNECT P4 to J4.

DATA/COMM cable (boom) to NIRSPEC

c.   JOIN loose fiber COVERS together.

d.   CONNECT P1 to J1.

Instrument power cable (boom) to NIRSPEC

e.   ATTACH the tension switch interlock tether (boom) to the NIRSPEC handler post.

f.    INSTALL all available protective caps over exposed connectors.

41.        CONNECT the NIRSPEC purge line to the Telescope Instrument Air.

42.        VERIFY airflow.

43.        INSTALL CCR protection box cover.

44.        SECURE all cables on the boom with cable ties or Velcro straps.


46.        DISCONNECT the handler power plug from the RT4 handler power outlet, and retract the cable on to the reel on the handler cart.

47.        SECURE Right Nasmyth platform and Nasmyth deck safety chains and gates.

 

XI.                  CONTROL ROOM

48.        OPEN Instrument Tech > Start VNC Viewers

49.        PULLDOWN Workspace menu in VNC Viewer. SELECT: NIRSPEC Engineering >

RECONFIG Power ON.

50.        From workspace menu SELECT: NIRSPEC Engineering > SHOWPOWER

51.        VERIFY all outlets are ON.

52.        From workspace menu SELECT: NIRSPEC Engineering > Instrument Temps

53.        VERIFY BENCH1, BENCH2, SCAM, and SPEC temperatures are within a few degrees of the TARGET temperature.

54.        From workspace menu SELECT: NIRSPEC Engineering > RUN testAll

55.        VERIFY instrument status is OK.

Note: Ignore errors on SPEC and SCAM checks.
