1.0 INTRODUCTION
The user interface and supervisory control (UISC) subsystem can be separated by function into separate UI and SC components. The UI software, on a SUN workstation, is used for observing and engineering purposes. The Natural Guide Star (NGS) Facility user interface controls the operation of the AO system through two computers: the wavefront controller which provides the high speed closed-loop AO operation, and the Supervisory Controller (SC) which provides the instrument control functions of the AO system. The SC software is on a VME based 680X0 CPU running VxWorks.
Modifications will be made to the NGS Facility user interface software for the additional features, requirements and analysis tools of Laser Guide Star (LGS) Facility. The user interface controls the operation of the laser through the laser controller, and the laser projection system through the laser hardware controller.
It is anticipated that two levels of user interface will be available: Engineering and Observer. The Engineering level is the most complete and has complete access to all system variables, including those that would affect calibration data. The Observer interface does not have access to those commands and variables that would necessitate a recalibration of the system variables. Both user interfaces will have full access to all the available diagnostic and analysis data that can be provided while the system is in operation.
