1. Calibration of focus compensation parameters (elevation) - KII
- PI: Sergey Panteleev
- Purpose: to calibrate focus correction parameters (for elevation) for
different instruments
- Test number: T430, T464, modified
- Test duration: 2 - 2.5 h for each instrument
- Description: I request these tests on a regular basis. So far, it was
done for Hires, Lris, Nirc and Esi (partly). The tests for the other instruments
planned have not been done or done only partly due to different reasons
(weather, bad seeing etc). The test procedure is to measure focus variation
at different elevations using MIRA for an instrument and Autofoc for an
instrument guider.

2. Purpose:
to test rotation dependence for focus of three instruments: NIRC, LWS and
the guider

5. Description:
In order to prepare for Continuous Focusing implementation, we have to understand
how rotation angle affects NIRC focus and guider focus. The test procedure
is to measure focus variation at different rotation angles with a telescope
at zenith using MIRA for an instrument and Autofoc for the guider guider.

4. Parfocality measurements – KII

- Purpose: to measure the difference in focus positions between instrument
guiders and scientific detectors
- Test number: T974
- Test duration: 1.5 h
- Description: as the Continuous Focusing is moving to implementation,
it becomes critical to know the parfocality for all instruments. The continuous
focusing will correct the focus for a guider. We need to know a correction
factor to correct the focus at the instrument detector. So far this test
was done only for the Lris offset guider and NIRC and LWS.

The test data for LRIS offset guider parfocality has been reduced. The
non-parfocality varies from 0.05 to 0.25 mm depending on guider position
The Deimos parfocality was measured during one of the CF tests. The test
gave around 10 microns non-parfocality. However, the other CF tests indicate
that it is around 50 – 70 micron. A new test is needed to confirm.
The NIRSPEC parfocality was measured for the annular guider at four field
points. The results has shown field dependency. We need another test with
more samples to understand what we need to make the guider parfocal.
- Secondary mirror recoating – KII
- PI: Sergey Panteleev
- Purpose: recoat the secondary mirror which has 3.5 year coating now.
This will require three days which means that the telescope will be out
of operation for two nights. The following half of the night will be used
for optical alignment of the secondary after installation.

- Purpose: testing new Autofoc script

We will run new Autofoc and compare results with old Autofoc at different
telescope positons and on different magnitudes.

- Segment rewarping on KII (this is optionall task
depending on time availability)

- Purpose: rewrap three segments with pure image quality. There are three
segments on KII that I’d like to rewrap. They were UFSed on the cloudy
night last June that may be the reason for not accurate initial warping.
