LWS Post-Service Mission Shakedown Test

 

1. Name of principle investigator, PI, and other personnel involved in observing, data reduction, and reporting.

2.      Purpose of test (development project, general telescope engineering, instrument commissioning, problem trouble shooting, data quality, etc.)

0.5 nights for eng in Dec is scheduled for LWS

1-2 hours - align LWS with K1
0.5 hours - Pointing Origins: LWS, GUIDER,
1 hour - detector rotation
NIRC, LWS, and GUIDER FOV rotation
LWS and NIRC may be off by a degree or more
2 hour - Chopper tests: Increase throws to 70 arcsec to test image quality after fine tuning az and el gains.
0.5 hour - flat field data 1,2,3 airmass. At 10 and 20 microns.

Note: The alignment will take place on Dec. 16. We will give back science time to van Breugel during the scheduled engineering night, 20 Dec.

5. Brief description of test.

LWS completed a service mission in late October to debug some minor optical problems. We request one half night of shake down in mid Dec.

6. Why night sky time is required.

Stars are needed for alignment Calibration of telescope subsystems, chopper, guider, nod accuaracy, etc need starlight.

7. Plan for data reduction, analysis, and reporting.

8. Preferred dates of observations and dates to avoid.
