Keck II Engineering Plan Details

SEGMENT EXCHANGE RECOVERY

1) T922, Realign optics after segment exchange 6.0 hours

This involves approximately 2 hours of work before going on the sky and
about four hours after. The pre-sky work may begin as soon as the segment exchange is completed. Richard Cohen, Barbara Schaefer, and Madeline Reed
will coordinate pre-sky work. On-sky work may begin shortly after sunset
during twilight. Barbara, Richard, and Madeline will run PCS from HQ for
the first part of the night, later handing over to Chuck on the summit.

This test includes stacking and phasing of the primary mirror (T598,T596)

2) T598 Combined secondary & primary alignment (Fine Screen) 0.5 hours

Even though we've just done several of these tests, tonight we want
to be sure the telescope is properly focused immediately before doing UFS
of the reference segment the first time. Try to do this at the same
elevation that you will do the first UFS tests.

3) T447, UFS of unwarped & exchanged ~1.5 hours

NOTE: SP 27 is the reference segment. Do the reference segment
at the beginning, at the end, and after every three or so segments, being
sure to do it before and after changing stars, if you must change stars. Always work above 65 degrees elevation.

SPECIAL NOTES FOR T447 UFS:
1. Always take measurements above 65 degrees elevation.
2. For type 6 segments (SP19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34, the outer point
segments) analyze using a 4th order Zernike fit. The default is 8th
order. THIS MUST BE CHANGED FROM THE BOX MENU ON THE GUI AS YOU BEGIN
THE TEST. Type 1 segments (the inner ring, SP1,2,3,4,5,6) also use a
4th order fit, but this is the default. All other segments use an 8th
order fit, also the default.
