Afternoon Calibrations
1) Focus Sequences on all available filters for all dichroic combinations
2) Arcs for all gratings and grisms - 1 frame each.
3) Imaging flat fields with all filters – 3 exposures each:
4) Spectroscopic flat fields – all available filters, 3 exposures each.
5) Test of blue mechanisms bar stooling - Estimated time 1 hour
LRIS-B optical components should be deployed and stowed repeatedly with rotator
angle set to plus and minus 90, moving the telescope in elevation every 10
degrees from horizon toward the zenith and back to determine at what elevation
angles the phenomenon occurs and ceases for each optical system, Dichroic,
Grism, and Filter.
After Sunset (> 19:16)
1) Focus procedure on sky to measure dome vs. sly focus-offset correction.
2) Flat fields to measure transfer function for both red and blue side for all amplifiers.
3) If time allows: sky flat fields for available filters.
Night after Twilight Ends @19:58
1) MIRA test 1 – Estimated time 2.5 hours
Demonstrate that stacking with pre-modification Mira at one rotator angle introduces
measurable astigmatism in the primary mirror at other rotator angles.
2) Mira test 2 _ estimated time 0.5-1 hour
Commission the new red&blue Mira procedure:
3) Zeropoints – Estimated time 1. hour. Measure zeropoints for all available
filters
4) Spectroscopic throughput for various instrument setups - Estimated 1 hour
5) Test Rotation vs. guiding – Estimated time 0.5 hours
Is it still true that small rotator moves cannot be done while guiding? Quantify “small”.
6) Measurement of flexures on red and blue arm - Estimated time 1-2 hour
Measurement of instrument flexure vs. elevation, rotation in imaging mode with
multi-holes mask. Measure of spectroscopic shifts vs. rotation and elevation
7) Test per Bill Mason _ estimated time 15 minutes
Assess the quality the slit for the newly milled longslit. Assess feasibility
of guiding with new material.
If time allows:
8) Pointing Origin: test T882. Check position of REF and REFM as per ticket
K1-11421- Estimated time 0.5
9) Pretty picture of a planetary nebula or a galaxy.
10) Extinction
Dawn Starts @4:54 - Till sunrise
1) More focus and/or flat fields for various instrument setups.
