Shutdown Checklist

Follow these steps at the end of the night to turn LWS off:

  1. Stop data acquisition.
    In the Xpose/LWS window, click on Abort to halt any current exposure.
  2. Insert ZnSe window.
    In the XLWS window, click on Window IN and SET to re-insert the protective cover over the dewar window.
  3. Insert 11.7 µm filter.
    In the filter area of the XLWS window, click the 11.7 µm filter button and then click SET to insert this filter.
  4. Turn off detector.
    In the XLWS window, click on the power OFF and heater OFF buttons to turn off the level power and detector heater, respectively.
  5. Stop instrument software.
    • From the window manager's main menu, select LWS Control and then LWS Shutdown. This will shut down most of the LWS windows. Please verify that the ZnSe dewar window is returned to its IN position.
    • Open the iconified LWS Start window and press CTRL-C in order to interrupt other windows.
  6. Stop Quickview software.
    • Click the File droplist in the Quickview display and release on Quit.
    • In the Quickview console window, type exit to end the IDL session and close the window.
  7. Stop remaining software.
    Kill any existing FACSUM and guider eavesdrop windows by clicking and holding the right mouse button in the window's titlebar and releasing on the QUIT item.
  8. Log out.
    From the window manager's pulldown menu, select the Exit... item to end your Xwindows session and log out of the workstation.
