Purpose
The LRIS Reconfiguration Manager allows Keck summit technicians
to update the LRIS software so that it knows which gratings,
filters, slitmasks, etc., are loaded into the instrument. This
GUI replaces several old widgets and offers several useful
new features:
- Convenient selector buttons allow you to select from
among standard gratings, filters, slitmasks, etc.
- You can also, if needed, change dichroics, blue filters,
and grisms
- You can automatically load changes from the current
day's LRIS configuration listed on the SIAS.
- The GUI highlights configurations changes with a
yellow background.
- You can (and should) enter barcode numbers for user
slitmasks, instead of typing names; the GUI automatically
converts numbers to names.
- When you ask it to set the configuration, the GUI
will verify that the requested changes were actually made.
Usage
Normal (Automated) Usage
When the magic is working, you need to follow only two steps to
reconfigure the LRIS software:
- Click the blue READ SIAS
CONFIG button to read today's configuration information
from the Summit Instrument Activity Schedule (SIAS).
- Click the green SET NEW CONFIG
button to make the change.
You should receive a confirmation dialog box stating
LRIS reconfiguration completed and confirmed!
Manual Usage
Automatic mode won't work if the DEIMOS host computer isn't
fully functional, or if you have configured LRIS differently
than called out on the schedule. In this case, complete the
reconfiguration manually as follows:
- Update the red filter list as needed by using the
selector button for the appropriate position.
- Update the grating list as needed by using the selector
button for the appropriate position.
- Update the slitmask list by doing any of the following:
- Select a longslit or other standard mask using the
appropriate StdMasks selector for that
position, or
- Enter the barcode number of a user mask in the
appropriate entry field, or
- Enter the name of a user mask in the appropriate
entry field.
If you enter a barcode number for a user mask, the software
will translate the barcode number into the appropriate
slitmask name when your cursor leaves the entry box, or you
hit the TAB key.
- Click the green SET NEW CONFIG button to make
the change.
You should receive a confirmation dialog box stating
LRIS reconfiguration completed and confirmed!
