ESI: The PANIC! Button

When the button labeled "PANIC!" (this used to be labeled "STOP") on the ESI GUI is hit, it shuts down all of the motors. This is truly a panic button and should only be used if there is a situation that imminently threatens either life, limb, or ESI mechanisms.

You will notice the status "HALTED" underneath the triple wheel and other mechanisms on the main GUI.

To recover, you can either:

• log onto kanaha as esieng and type "unhalt",

• have the observers type "unhalt" in a kanaha window, or

• have the observers reinitialize the instrument (click "User Config" then "Initailize Instrument", then "Yes, really initialize the instrument". The observer's settings will have to be re-entered, including CCD windowing, binning, etc. if these have been changed from the defaults.)
