Software control

 Move slitmask/filter wheels (all three)
 Demonstrate echellette/imaging/low-resolution modes.
 Demonstrate use of observing scripts, and user-customization of scripts.
 Pause/Resume/Abort exposures

CCD

 Demonstrate controller reset
Demonstrate readout and measure readout times in various modes.
  • Single-amp, full frame 
  • Dual-amp, full frame 
  • Single-amp, subwindows of various sizes 
  • Dual-amp, subwindows 
 Empirically measure gain, read noise for different gain settings and different amps.
 Provide controller diagnostics and troubleshooting procedures
 Provide controller component changeout procedures
 Provide list of standard settings (gain, window, binning, bias setting)
 Provide preventive maintenance list and suggested time table.

Dewar

 Measure hold time (half-full) 17 hours
 Provide pump-down procedure
 Provide cool-down procedure

Spectrograph

Align and collimate spectrograph: 
  • Collimator 
  • Camera 
  • Grating

Determine flexure compensation table.
Determine wavelength scale along low-res mode.
Determine wavelength scale along echellette orders.
Measure flexure with compensation turned off.
Create flexure compensation table.

Measure slit image tilts as a function of field position on CCD.
Measure field flatness. Adjust dewar tilt (CCD tilt?) if necessary.

Measure focus offsets with different filters.
Measure image quality with BVRI filters.

CARA Tasks

Create accounts (esi, esieng, esi1-20).
Create "config" setup.
Create scripts to monitor CCD temperature, disk space.
Modify scripts to allow archiving of ESI data.
Estimate pointing origin,
Add ESI focal plane to SKY program.
Run cables on summit for:
  • host computer 
  • motor computer 
  • CCD computer 
  • serial lines 
Enter IP addresses for computers.
Setup CVS repository (for software version control).
