Background
With the DEIMOS Arcplots widget, observers can generate arc line
plots customized to any grating, central wavelength, and set of
line lamps. This is useful for verifying the achieved
wavelength range for specific slits. The spectra displayed by
the GUI were acquired with the DEIMOS 600 l/mm grating in May
2007.
Invocation
To launch the widget from the DEIMOS background menu, select
DEIMOS Utilities > DEIMOS Arcplots Widget. After
a few seconds, the IDL
Virtual Machine banner will appear. Click this, and the
widget will run.
Interface
The GUI is shown below.
Controls
Lamps
Click the toggle buttons to turn on the desired lamps. The
corresponding DEIMOS spectrum will be shown in the plot area.
Grating options
- Grating
- Select the appropriate grating, which controls the range
of wavelengths visible in the plot.
- Central wavelength
- Specifies the desired central wavelength for the spectrum
(Angstroms). You can type in a new wavelength and press
RETURN to change the setting. You can also adjust this
parameter by clicking the MIDDLE MOUSE button on the spectrum
plot.
- Blue limit
- Shows the starting (blue) wavelength for the spectrum
(Angstroms). You can type in a new wavelength and press
RETURN to change the setting.
- Red limit
- Shows the starting (blue) wavelength for the spectrum
(Angstroms). You can type in a new wavelength and press
RETURN to change the setting.
Marking Options
- Mark lines
- Click toggle to enable/disable arc line labeling
- Label lines
- Click toggle to select display of lamp name or wavelength
for features
- Max lines
- Select "all" to mark all arc lines, or set to another
value to mark the N brightest lines.
Buttons
- Print
- generate a hardcopy of the current plot, or save to a
Postscript file
- Quit
- Exit the application
Distribution
Please click here to obtain a copy of the DEIMOS arcplots widget
