Each Keck instrument has a primary instrument scientist and a secondary or deputy instrument scientist. The primary instrument scientist is in overall charge of the instrument, while the deputy serves as a backup. Both are experts at the instrument. In addition, other support astronomers are also knowledgeable about, and support, the instruments. The table below shows these assignments.
