KAPA stands for Keck All sky Precision Adaptive optics. This upgrade offers laser tomography (LTAO) correction that should reduce the Single Laser AO (SLS) correction anisoplanatism error by 50%.
The system consists of 4 LGS (laser guide stars) that provide LTAO correction in two modes: LTAO optimized at field center and LTAO optimized over a FOV of 20"x20".
