The WHAC Meeting was held on October 9, 2007 in the Keck Hualalai Conference Room in Waimea. No Agenda was available in advance this time.
As usual, Doug Summers opened the meeting. He welcomed all members both new and old.
We had a reduced attendance this time, only 17 members, including three new faces, among them John and Sara from the Volcano side.
Andrew Cooper facilitated the meeting, taking care of the main talk and the Sky Tonight.
The main topic: Observing Planning.
Andrew gave us a tour of the major planning tools available via the Internet, Software and standard publications from various Astronomical Institutions around the world, as Catalogs, Astronomical books, References and Manuals, etc.
He made a strong emphasis in researching the work of the earlier explorers of the sky to find out what motivated them, the problems they encountered and how they organized their work to use as an example for our own experiences.
This was a wonderful talk, thanks Andrew.
The Sky Tonight:
Most of the discussion was related to the planets available for observation during this time of the year.
Mercury can be seen close to sunset.
Jupiter high in the sky at sunset
Morning sky: Venus and Saturn.
Club Business: Organization of the Star Party at the Club site on Saturday 13. Hot dogs and beverages will be available starting at 5:30 PM.
