W.M. Keck Observatory
Publishing Papers Containing Keck
Data
|
 |
We request that all scientific papers based on Keck data include the
following acknowledgement
(selecting the parenthetical words as appropriate)
and suggest it appear as a footnote to the title
of the paper itself: "(Some of) The data presented herein were obtained
at the W.M. Keck Observatory, which is operated as a scientific partnership
among the California Institute of Technology, the University of California
and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The Observatory
was made possible by the generous financial support of the W.M. Keck Foundation."
We further strongly suggest to all authors that they include the following
statement in the acknowledgement
section at the end of their published paper:
"The authors wish to recognize and acknowledge the very significant
cultural role and reverence that the summit of Mauna Kea has always had
within the indigenous Hawaiian community. We are most fortunate to
have the opportunity to conduct observations from this mountain."
In addition, we encourage all users of WMKO facility instruments to
cite the appropriate reference for that instrument
in the body of any published scientific paper.
Citations for the following instruments can be found on the Instruments

Sharing of Research Results
The W. M. Keck Observatory strongly encourages observers to share their
results with the public. A Public Information and Outreach Office has
been established to support you in this effort. This office is
available to discuss proposals, ideas and other interest related to
education and outreach. Contact the office at (808) 881-3827 or
newsletter@keck.hawaii.edu
or by mail at 65-1120 Mamalahoa Highway,
Kamuela, HI 96743.
Notification
Observers are strongly encouraged to notify the W. M. Keck Observatory
Public Information Office ten days or more prior to the release of any
results or information based whole or in part on data obtained at the W.
M. Keck Observatory. Notification may be made to the Public Information
and Outreach Office as indicated above.
Press Releases
Results which appear to be of special interest to the general public may
be made the subject of a CARA press release to the news media. In the
event that the research organization wishes to join with CARA in a
simultaneous news release, arrangements may be made through the CARA
Public Information and Outreach Office as indicated above.
Acknowledgement
Authors whom publish data based whole or in part on data obtained at the
W. M. Keck Observatory are asked to provide acknowledgment in press
releases and to news media reporters during interviews, including radio,
