NIRSPEC will on occasion require power cycling. The main power breaker is located on the forward rack; it controls the Pulizzi power strip. The NIRSPEC server software must be stopped before turning off power. To stop the server:
To access the forward rack, remove the Right-Forward insulation panel.
Power cycle the main breaker with a 5 s delay.

If power to NIRSPEC is interrupted, due to loss of instrument cooling or HELCO dropouts, restoring communication from the host computer waimea to the instrument will be required.
If the instrument cooling system is under repair, or needs to
be restarted, NIRSPEC's main power should be shut off until the
glycol flow is stable. Pulsating flow will cause the flow switch
to turn the power off and on repeatedly; such multiple power cycles
of the instrument are potentially damaging.
Inspect the flow switch indicator on the NIRSPEC cooling module
prior to restoring power.
To restore communications, at a waimea prompt, type "stop_nirspec". If this command fails, type "psgrep server". If a single nirspec_server_bin process remains, then the SCSI/fiber extender located on the shelves adjacent to the K2 interconnect rack must be power cycled (it is labeled NIRSPEC TRANSPUTER). Afterwards, type "runserver" to test communication. The operator in K2 remote ops will need to exit all frozen GUI's, and re-start the instrument from the NIRSPEC Control Menu.
The document Troubleshooting server problems can be consulted for direction in the event that the server cannot be restarted successfully.
When NIRSPEC is undergoing a cooldown or a warmup, or the cryogenic state
is interrupted by loss of CCR cooling, it may be necessary to power off
the motor controller to avoid driving the cryogenic mechanisms when
temperatures are not stable.
The motor controller and driver power supply is located in the forward
rack; its power switch is found on the back of the rack, opposite and above
the main power breaker. To access the motor power switch, remove the
Left-Forward-Top insulation panel (it is labeled), and turn on or
off the motor power as directed.
