A direct image in J-band (1.25 microns), and a portion of a high-resolution H-band (1.62 microns) spectrum taken by the NIRSPEC spectrograph detector of the spectroscopic binary star SAO64240 (V(primary)=7.4). The direct image (top or left) is a magnified (negative) view of the 68 milli-arcsec slit with the binary star pair (of separation approximately 70 milli-arcsec) within it. This image was taken to verify that the object pair is within the slit and at the proper position angle. The spectrum (bottom or right) shows the spatial separation of the two stellar continua in 3 of the central orders dispersed in high-resolution mode, at R=14600.
