NIRC2 Startup and Shutdown Instructions

  1. To startup the NIRC2 software type nirc2start.
  2. Before you shut off the electronics type nirc2stop.

To start or stop pieces of the software, use the "nirc2 function process" protocol. As an example, to stop the Aladdin server, you would type "nirc2 stop alad".

The functions are:

If only one copy of the software is allowed to be running, "start" will usually do the same thing as "restart," namely kill existing processes and start a new copy.

The processes are:

    aladsim Aladdin simulator
all All observing software (equivalent to "nirc2start")
    command The command window
    dcssim DCS simulator
    iod IO daemon
    log Log file
mechanisms Both the motor and IO daemons
    motord Motor daemon
motors Both the motor and IO daemons
    nirc2exp Exposure control GUI
    quicklook IDL quicklook
    statusd Status display
    tempd Temperature display
