Motor Control with the clean room laptop

The laptop can be used in the clean room for controlling and monitoring the mechanism motors. This is accomplished by establishing a telnet connection to the Sun host computer called nirc2.

  1. Powerup and boot the laptop, the power switch is on the right side top surface of the laptop close to the 'Pause/Break' key. Windows 98 will eventually boot, wait for the stop watch to disappear.
  2. Double click (left button) on the icon labelled 'Shortcut to Telnet.exe'
  3. When the telnet window appears, use the 'Connect' pulldown and select the NIRC2 sun hosts computer's ip address 131.215.116.49
  4. When the login prompt appears, login as nirc2eng.

Currently, the telnet sessions can sometimes get into a state where the up and down arrows do not function as expected (scrolling through the command history). Until a solution is devised for this problem, it is necessary to kill the telnet session and start a new one.
