The Remote Ops rooms at Keck HQ feature a variety of tape drives
which can be used to save data on magnetic media. In increasing
order of capacity, they include:
- DAT (4mm) drives, HP DDS-3 format
- Exabyte (8mm) drives, model EXB 8500 drives
- DLT drive
- Ultrium (LTO) drive, model HP SureStore 230
Keck does not have have any "monster Exabyte" or DDS4 DAT drives
available. You can use either the Unix tar
command or the local mktartape
script to write data to these tapes. Note: observers
are expected to bring their own magnetic media for use with
these drives.
