Data may be backed up in three ways.
- Autobackup writes to CDs and DVDs - A robotic autoloader is used to insert CDs and DVDs for writing and storing an observer's data. The CDs and DVDs are provided free of charge to the observer. Autobackup is the prefered method for backing up data.
- Tape backup - Write your data to DAT, Exabyte, DLT, or LTO tapes.
- SCP, SFTP, or FTP data - Transfer data from Keck to your home institution using scp, sftp, or ftp on summit machines.
